As i know many happen to encounter with this issue when you buy a new iPhone or when you reset your phone and want to set up the imessages to your imac or macbook air or pro.
so first step is to open imessages from the mac pc which you are using -> go to preferences as the other most tutorials explain. -> here comes the tricky part where every one doesnt get this right. click icloud and in the option start a conversation from chose your original gmail account or the email address make sure that you do not select the mobile phone no.
iPhone start conversation should also has to changed to the email address.
then do the same to your phone.
go to settings -> messages -> sending forwarded to and tap the pc and you will get the activation code from the mac pc right away.
